The mystery that is the 'wax melt'

Updated: Apr 13, 2019

What is a wax melt

Wax Melts are essentially made up from the same stuff as a candle, but without the wick. The purpose is also the same; to make your home smell amazing!

But why would you use them if their purpose is the same? For most people the reason is simple, candles are a fire risk. So some people prefer to not have a flame in the house, because of small kids or pets, and some aged care facilities also do not allow the residents to burn candles because of the flame.

Wax melts provide a great alternative to candles by using an electric wax tart burner. The wax will melt and will slowly release the fragrance through the room just like my candles, but without a flame. There are so many fragrances to choose from! (add link to full fragrance list)

Is it not the same as burning essential oils? Not exactly, when using an essential oil burner you are heating the oils to a temperature where the essential oils evaporate into the air. After burning for some time you are left without any liquid in the burner and this can cause a fire risk in itself as it is continuing to heat the burner itself.

However when you are using wax melts in a wax burner, the temperature only gets hot enough to melt the wax, which will gently release the fragrance without fully evaporating.

Where do I buy them? In my online shop I sell my wax melts in handy six packs, you can simply pop them out when you need them. It is recommended to start with one and work your way up to more if you feel the need.

They will each last you several hours, though depending on how strong you like it you may find them sufficient to burn for multiple sessions per block.
